Prime to bust out the chips and Mountain Dew.

On a related note, who would be the Oppo Dungeon Master?

I'm going to be playing 3.5 this evening.

I don't know who other than myself and Kugelblitz have copped to being massive D&D fanatics, but I just know there are others.

I've watched people play it but I've never actually done so myself. I've always wanted to though, it just seems like proper fun.

I used to play, but I moved to Shadowrun. I just prefer the setting better.

If I were to arrange an Oppo-related RPG session, it'd probably be Pathfinder, just because it's open source (thus not needing books) and solves most of the problems of 3.5 without eliminating the ability to be batshit loco. I wonder, though, what the best kind of setting with opponauts might be: semi-primitive grease-monkey societies living in junkyards fallen through from another plane? That'd make for a way to involve cars while staying (mostly) medieval-to-steampunk.

Steampunkish things are also supported better in Pathfinder. Hmmm...

I'm running a game of SR 20th ed. as well. Got a character based on John Preston from Equilibrium, one based on Buzz Lightyear, one based on Light from Death Note, one based on Vash the Stampede from Trigun, an elf racist, and a troll movie star.

Insanity may or may not be rampant there.

I went through a D&D phase in Jr. High.

Lasted all of six months.

I liked the creative aspect of it, but really didn't like the other kids that played it. It wasn't my crowd.

I should see what a bunch of 1982 D&D books and modules (is that what they were called?) go for on ebay.

edit - I'm back from eBay. Not worth going to Mom's house and getting up the attic.

I just made the switch to 5th ed from the 20th anniversary. I'm working on trying to convert some stuff over to the new mechanics but it's not to hard to do. My personal character is an elf gunslinger adept that prefers using outdated gear to whats normally available.

My most normal character personally was a NA troll former bartender/biker. My least normal was probably the ork diver with a chest-mounted grappling gun in which he was practiced as a weapon.

Shadowrun always allowed for some pretty out there characters. It helps that its not a class based system.

Its pretty bad when you don't have a good group. My first group i played with was decent, but the second one I went to the DM was pretty full of themselves and wouldn't allow for any rule bending or real creativity within the game. that made me quite for a while then I started running it myself and found that only having light rule enforcement and allowing as much creativity as possible leads to the best games.

My most out there characters tend to be the ones I help other people build because I want to see something that crazy in my game. Like the violently unhealthy dwarf with lightning speed and 0.05 Essence left, or the fast-healing SURGEd amnesiac with 0.01 Essence left (yes, this is possible)but all cyber/bio well disguised.Or the angry Russian AI, or the eagle shapeshifter sniper.

The grammaton cleric/Equilibrium character I mentioned is Exceptional Attribute (Reaction) + 2 ranks of the adept power for reaction/IPs + a quality I think... short version, he rolls 11 dice to defend against attacks, and is roughly the fastest metahuman alive.

Not me, though I'm pretty good at making up PCs and NPCs, I suck at leading the story.

Yeah I've put together near full conversion cyborgs for players before and had some way out there mages. I started putting limits on how crazy people could go just to keep it somewhat grounded. I'm bummed that the the hardest thing to convert over is the meta-variants and other playable races. but its only a matter of time before they release new source-books to replace the old ones, and I'm always a sucker for new source-books. I find it amusing though that the release a new version of the Ares Predator with each new edition.

I took a short (30-year) break from the game - picked up Pathfinder BB, then discovered that the B/X still lives though the various OGL versions (also plenty of open-source/free resources). Not that I have time for campaign play, but a one-off here and there would be fun.

I don't have group right now but i still love reading the source-books. It's been over a year since i last played and I've been studying my Shadowrun books since then, and slowly building up a full highly detailed setting.

I have a basic kit actually from '84, and an AD&D sourcebook or two. Got a friend with a massive 2E stash I need to con him into giving me.

My group is doing a "series special" to celebrate. Starting with AD&D two weeks ago, we rolled characters and had a session, then updated them to 3rd Edition, played a session, updated to 3.5E, played a session, and this week we will update them to 4E for the finale.

My human bard (intentionally chosen to be as useless as possible) went from "spectacularly useless" in AD&D to "poor" in 3E and 3.5E made him "occasionally helpful." I don't remember what bards are like in 4E, although given my general distaste for 4E I am expecting he'll be exactly like everyone else's character.

My group normally plays "old" White Wolf, but we've also been known to dabble in Shadowrun, Star Wars Saga Edition, and the Dragon Age RPG. We recently got the guy with the best head for numbers to read the Burning Wheel book, and he's going to try running that next.

Same here, about reading the source material. While we haven't scheduled any meets, my group's been looking into Cthulhu Tech as an alternative to the usual fantasy settings we use. Might go with a cop/noir based story in the future, instead of the mecha fighting though. I'll probably roll a detective from the past who drives an also blasted from the past Chevrolet Nova 427, Demolition Man style.

Cthulhu Tech is pretty good. The only issues I've seen with it is that it is extremely dark at times, but most games involving Cthulhu and the old gods are.

True, but that's also part of its appeal, at least to me. Knowing my group, the plot will probably revolve around some very nasty criminal organizations, so it's all the more reason to blow them up, haha...
